Horses for Healing
What is Horses for Healing?
THIS PROGRAM IS NO LONGER RUNNING. Please refer to yserve.byu.edu for information about other volunteer opportunities.
Horses for Healing takes a group of 6-8 volunteers to help with the Equine Therapy Program. Volunteers are each paired up with a student and their responsibilities include: supervising riding activities under the instruction of the Equine Therapist, helping timid or unsure students get their horse out of the paddock and tacked up, and helping cheer them on as they learn and grow. Because of what we need to be able to do, we are looking for people who have
experience working with and riding horses
who would be comfortable in coaching and correcting students. Occasionally, we participate in other service projects at the location for which all are welcome.
How do I get involved?
Please contact the program directors by email at horsesforhealing@byu.edu or by the phone numbers listed in the sidebar for more information. Please leave your name and number and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please complete this mandatory 20 minute child protection training before you begin working with this program.
Experiences
I just started going to the Horses for Healing which is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. What I love is that we get to do something we love and is fun and work with kids that are learning and figuring out who they are as a person. I was surprised at first by how much everyone helps each other do their best, including us as volunteers. One day I went I found myself having a great conversation about life changes with one of the kids at the ranch while we were all preparing the horses and then later we were all working together and cheering each other on with the horse relay races. This is a common feeling at Horses for Healing and I love it!
